Soul Shift: The Matriarch's Awakening

Cecelia Sharples's mother has always been soft-spoken and correct, the sort of woman who keeps her head down in a household that gives her nothing. One morning Rachel White wakes up and is somebody else. She says her soul came from another time and place, that her real home is up in the northeast, and that Cecelia is the mistreated legitimate daughter in a historical novel she happens to have read. She intends to fix that by turning Cecelia into the story's real lead. Cecelia has no idea what any of this means. The meaning arrives when her father, who has always favored the concubine's side of the house, tells Cecelia to hand over the royal engagement token to her half-sister. Rachel laughs, picks up the door bolt and tells him that what belongs to a northeastern woman can be thrown to the dogs before a freeloader gets it.
