The Emperor's New Foe / Ác Phi Thế Thân

The story follows a modern girl, Liu Wanyan, who develops a deep sympathy for the tragic fate of Emperor Yuanzhe while reading a novel. After accidentally dying from an electric shock, she transmigrates back to ancient times and becomes Jiang Wangshu, the consort who caused Emperor Yuanzhe’s death in the book. At the same time, Yuanzhe, having endured betrayal and death in his previous life, is also reborn. After his rebirth, Yuanzhe’s temperament changes drastically: he becomes dark, suspicious, and fearsome. He is highly wary of Liu Wanyan, who now inhabits Jiang Wangshu’s body, and repeatedly seeks to put her to death. To survive, Liu Wanyan has no choice but to cling cautiously to Yuanzhe, yet she can never earn his trust. During an assassination attempt, Liu Wanyan rushes to Yuanzhe's rescue, only to be grabbed and used as his human shield. Afterward, overwhelmed by despair, Liu Wanyan thinks about escaping the palace altogether. However, Yuanzhe learns that she had actually rushed there that night to save him, finally realizing he had misunderstood her all along. From then on, Yuanzhe starts to pay attention to Liu Wanyan and discovers that she is utterly different from the Jiang Wangshu who betrayed him in his previous life. She even knows intimate details of his childhood. This catches Yuanzhe’s intense curiosity. Thus, amid mutual wariness and testing, the two gradually join forces, seeking self-discovery and redemption together within the peril-filled imperial palace.
