Esme Olsen and Nate Blair grew up together in the Blair house and became a couple as adults. The family's biological son appeared and Nate was put out of the home. They agreed that Esme would come and find him. The next day Esme was diagnosed with leukemia. She did not want Nate carrying it, so she asked her father to look after him instead. Her father cared about money, sent men to beat Nate, and told him Esme had changed her mind. Nate saw Esme leaving with the real Blair heir and left.
