Beneath Ruin, He Returns Supreme

There was a prison sentence waiting for Caleb Jarell's brother. Caleb owed the parents who had taken him in and raised him, so he went in and served it in his brother's place. Inside, he was taught the Nine Heavens Dragon Art. The training went wrong at some point and left him with a condition in his body that will not mend on its own. Only a woman with a particular spirit body can put it right. Five years later Caleb comes out and starts looking for one. His family forces him into a marriage with the Smith family instead, and he goes in as a live-in son-in-law. The Smith daughter he is handed to has a disfigured face, and she has the spirit body he has been looking for.
