Melody Lowe becomes Michael Pond's wife through a bargain. His company is at its lowest point, and she offers to put money into it if he marries her. His girlfriend leaves him at that time because of the state he is in, and he believes Melody is the one who drove her off. Long before this, when they were children, Melody had pulled Michael out of an accident and been left with a scar on her face.
