Tessa Harper was overweight and had no confidence. Her sister Nina set her up to drug her own husband, Andrew Beckett, on their wedding night. Andrew's leg was broken as a result, and Tessa was sent off to his estate in the country. There the soul of a healer from an earlier age entered her body. She lost the weight, made a living from the healer's medicine, and gave birth to quintuplets. Five years later the five children met Andrew, who had been looking for them. They played at having been kidnapped, and he took them home to the Beckett house. Tessa followed, took a job in the house as a cleaner, and gave her name as Tess. Andrew grew attached to the children and to the cleaner. Nina kept setting traps for Tessa, and the traps brought Tessa and Andrew closer. Andrew also noticed things about the cleaner that did not fit.
