The Forsaken Daughter of Olympus

In the temples of Olympus and Titan, the Goddess of Fate binds each person to a partner on their eighteenth birthday, and the binding is announced in front of everyone. Elena has been a maid in the Olympus Temple for fifteen years, since she was orphaned. The two who make her days hardest are Alec, the new Sovereign of Light, and his mistress Thalia. On her eighteenth birthday the Goddess binds Elena to Alec. He rejects her in public. The Goddess then binds her a second time, to Stefano Clay, who rules the Titan Temple, Olympus's rival. Stefano has seen how she was treated. He claims her in front of the same crowd and takes her out of the temple with him. At the Titan Temple she is given the protection and the standing she never had at Olympus. Once she is gone, Alec works out what the rejection cost him and begins trying to get her back.
