Devotion for Betrayal

The operation Max needs costs three hundred thousand, and his mother Helen does not have three hundred thousand. His uremia is at the last stage and the surgery is the only thing left to try. She cleans for a living. She borrows from everyone she can reach, draws her wages before she has earned them, and arranges to sell the house in her hometown. At work she is looked down on, and some of it comes from Max and his girlfriend and the girlfriend's family. She keeps at it and holds on to the idea that the money will come together in time. Max takes the money and puts it into a house to be married in, and what she collected for the surgery is gone.
