Mr. Cupid in Rags' Payback

Mr. Cupid wants a wife, and being a god he cannot simply go and find one, so his mother pushes him down into the mortal world to do it. He goes as a beggar. At a temple fair he meets Hazel Zane of the Zane family, and through a run of misunderstandings the two of them are married. They live poorly. The Zanes see a beggar in the house and treat him as one, beating him and pressing Hazel to marry someone else. Hazel stays. At a birthday banquet Mr. Cupid comes back with a gift out of heaven and is laughed at as a beggar carrying trinkets, and he lets his power show. Her father will not back down even then, and his mother comes down after that.
