Life's Road, Filial First

Lucas King wanted to stay a Wells. He had been switched with another baby at birth and brought up in their house on their money, and twenty years on the son who belonged there came home and Lucas's own parents, who had nothing, came to the door looking for him. He sent them away and stayed where the comfort was, and he spent the years after that keeping himself in the Wells family's good books. At forty he needed treatment and asked them for the money. They turned him down, and what they did to him after that killed him, and he went in his birth parents' arms. Then he was twenty years back, in the house, with none of it done yet. He set about getting his mother and father a better life than the one he had left them with, and about making the people who turned on him pay for it.
