Reunion in the Vanity Fair

The deals in Jackson Smith's line of work get made at dinners, and a dinner goes better with a woman at the table keeping the men in a good mood. Jackson took control of the family after Stella Kelly's father died. Stella is a lawyer near the top of her profession, and she is the woman he sends into those rooms. She does it because her mother lives under his roof, and she holds a line on how far it goes. Oliver Lynn turns up at one of the gatherings. He and Stella were together years before and it ended over something neither of them ever explained to the other. He sets about repairing that and getting her out from under Jackson.
