Raina Elliott stopped speaking at seven. Around that time she met Rhett Southwell, a boy with damage of his own, and for thirteen years he was the person she attached herself to. When her sister walked out before the ceremony, Raina was put in her place at the altar. She made no objection, which everyone took for reluctance. On the wedding night something went wrong and Rhett sent her out of the country to keep her away from it. She came back four years later expecting to pick things up. He kept her at a distance instead. Not long after, she was caught up in a robbery and came away with a phone that alters the speaker's voice.
