Chloe told Dylan Mercer that she was the one who had saved his life. Natalie Lawson had been engaged to Dylan since the two of them were children, and Chloe was the daughter of a rival family that the Lawsons had taken in. Dylan believed her and began pulling away from Natalie, and he came to resent Natalie for holding on to the engagement. Chloe went out to Myana to run the Lawson business there and moved into illegal trade, and that put her in the way of the command that runs the territory.
