Cheng Qingye was five years into her engagement to Lü Xudong and a few weeks from the wedding when she learned he had been sleeping with someone else. Her mother was seriously ill and the news would have finished her, so Qingye said nothing to anybody and kept smiling through the preparations. The strain came out as insomnia. She went to a traditional medicine clinic for it and was seen by a young doctor, Simon, who had in fact known who she was for a long time and said nothing about that either. Worn down and past caring how it sounded, she asked him to sleep with her so she could get a night's rest.
