After Everything, I Still Lost You

Chad Larson's mother settled an engagement with another family on her own and kept pushing the match until it took. The person in the way was Grace Smith, who had been living in Chad's house for seven years by then. The two of them had been days from their own wedding when they were attacked coming down a mountain. Grace got Chad clear of it and was left mentally impaired. Her parents were killed in a car accident on the road out to look for her. Chad stayed single and did the caring himself. Once the other woman was in the picture, things between Chad and Grace came apart and Grace left on her own. He searched three years and found nothing. In that time he was told he had cancer. His mother said she would kill herself if he did not marry and leave the family an heir, so he agreed to the wedding. Later he passed a beggar in the street and something about her put him in mind of Grace. On the morning of the wedding a message reached him saying the beggar was Grace. He set off for the hospital, and things kept going wrong on the way.
