Regret is the Punishment

The house catches fire while Karen is out of it. Her five-year-old daughter Anna is inside and falls during the fire. Karen keeps house and her husband Tom is a lawyer with money. Merry, a passerby who stopped to help, rides along in the fire truck taking Anna to the hospital, with Bob, the fire captain, driving. Anna has to reach the emergency room for surgery as soon as they can get her there. On the way the truck hits Karen's car. She is driving back from her lover. She gets out and demands that they beg her for forgiveness and then pay for the damage, and the argument goes on. Merry, Eve the paramedic, and some of the people who have stopped in the street try to get her to move the car. Karen will not move it. She does not know that the child in the back of the truck is Anna.
