Lila is five when her uncle Harold and her aunt Karen leave her behind and do not come back for her. Jonathan, a billionaire with more house than family, finds the child and takes her home, and the adoption goes through. His son Noah has not spoken in a long time. With Lila around, he starts talking again. Lila turns out to be useful in ways that are hard to explain. At an auction she steers Jonathan toward a chest that turns out to hold something hidden. She holds conversations with the family dog and follows what he tells her until Noah's missing violin turns up. With Jonathan's sister Isabelle she works on a handbag design that sells well enough to pull Isabelle's company back from collapse.
