Forgive Me, Forget Me Not

Lottie loved a man and gave him up. She had no choice about it: staying with him would have gotten him killed, so she made herself walk away, and the way she did it involved a knife. She stabbed him. Years pass. She sees him again and he has become a lawyer of the kind who moves billions and gets calls returned. He has money, standing, and a memory of a woman who put a blade in him and disappeared. He does not know why she did it, and she has not told him. What he carries instead is a settled, unhurried hatred, and now he has the resources to act on it. Lottie has to stand in front of him with the reason for the stabbing still sitting in her mouth, unsaid, while he decides what to do with her.
