Hubby, Let’s See Who Rules This House

Joanna Chilton is the principal wife in the Duke's house. Her husband, Ernest Jephson, keeps a concubine whose family carries weight of its own, and his relationship with his widowed sister-in-law is not a clear one. Joanna learned all of this only after the wedding. She was brought up in the strictest tradition of noble daughters, the kind of woman Ernest finds stiff and dull. The concubine provokes her and the sister-in-law stirs things up from behind. Joanna handles each of them as it comes. As she sees it, the principal wife is there to clean up the Duke's messes. Her intention is to make her position secure, have heirs, and then take the Duke himself in hand. For now the quarrels in the house keep her occupied.
