Mr Edward arranged an engagement for his son with the families settling it between them, then told him it was done. Adrian believes real love is found in plain circumstances, so he decided to test his fiancée by presenting himself as two brothers. One was Adrian, confident, clever, self-centred, hard-faced and rarely smiling. The other was a blind twin named Eden, quiet, gentle and attentive, treated in the family as the one who gets blamed. His best friend Austine helped him keep it up, and his father was away from home and knew nothing about it. Michelle, the fiancée, walked into the arrangement without knowing which of the two she was dealing with.
