Ghosts of the Love We Once Were

Ashley Zerkle spends seven years as empress to a man who swore he would never take another woman, and the vow is not kept. Roland Hyde confessed to her 999 times before she agreed to marry him. The night before the wedding, a rare alignment of seven stars threw them both into an era of war. Ashley fought at his side through the campaigns that founded the dynasty, and Roland crowned her empress and promised eternal fidelity. In the seventh year he brings the physician Yolanda to court and means to make her a concubine. Ashley refuses, so Roland has her locked up and humiliated. The court astrologer tells her the way back to her own time will open in seven days. Roland, certain that a wife who suffered with him from nothing will never leave, lets Yolanda do as she likes with her while Ashley waits out the days.
