Megacraft Group fired Chris Yellen and put him on a blacklist that shut him out of the industry. He was a mech designer. He went through scrap for parts and entered the mech tournament with what he could put together. An alien force moved into human star territory and hit the Blue Planet. Irene Spark, the Interstellar Empress, took heavy injuries in one of those attacks and came down on the planet. Her body shut into a dormant state while it healed. Chris found her like that and took her for a machine, and he began repairing her. He then bound himself to her under a piloting contract with no idea who she was. The mistake was what kept her alive. The two of them went through the tournament field and then against the alien force.
