When the Past Whispers, He Answers in Ruin

Mike Slater arrives in Axton to call off an arranged engagement, on his teacher's instruction. He and Sharon Giles, the woman on the other side of it, end up sleeping together, and the two of them register the marriage instead. He had been living up on the mountain and keeping what he can do out of sight. He stops keeping it out of sight for her, and she becomes the richest businesswoman in Axton. His own family was wiped out years before and he had taken it for an accident. He finds out that it was arranged, and he uses a sheepskin scroll he carries to draw the person behind it into the open.
