Society has split into a wealthy city in the sky and the slums left underneath it. Luna lives below, and she is a rare Omega whose pheromones send Alpha men out of their minds. One day her scent gets loose in public and reaches Cyrus Sterling, the Alpha King, who announces he intends to take her as his wife. Her father is critically ill and the marriage is the only way to pay for keeping him alive, so she agrees to it as a political arrangement and prepares for a captor. Cyrus turns out to protect her. Her scent also draws attention she cannot control, envy from women in his court and interest from Adrian, who wants her for himself and is willing to work through the palace to get her. Conspiracies form around the marriage, people close to them turn, and a rebellion inside the royal house builds while Luna is still learning who in the sky city means her harm.
