Seraphina lives in Hell now, as Malachi's wife. The paper she carried down from Heaven was supposed to be a battle summons, and it had been rewritten into a marriage contract before it reached her hands. Malachi read it, saw which warrior had been sent to him, and accepted her. She was Heaven's strongest seraph before that. She broke Hell's army and paid for it with her blood and her wings, and was then charged with stealing the credit for the victory. Celeste built the case against her while keeping an innocent face throughout it. Aurelian, who was her lover, stood in front of the assembled angels and denied that she had sacrificed anything, cut her wings away, and stripped her of every honor she held. Heaven sent her down as penance on a mission nobody expected her to come back from. Celeste destroyed the last thing she had kept from Aurelian, and after that Seraphina cut the bond between them and left Heaven with no intention of returning. She means to take back the standing that was taken from her. Celeste's account of the war is going to be contradicted, and Aurelian will come to regret the choice he made.
