The Heiress They Called a Fraud

Winter comes to Kingsport to be recognized as a daughter of the Ford family, and her brother calls her a con artist and puts her out of the house. A name that differs by a single letter takes her to the Fowlers instead, and that family keep her, give her standing and back her with their money. She grew up an orphan in a mountain village, with no degree and no connections behind her, and people in Kingsport say so to her face. She answers with medicine. She pulls patients through emergencies, breaks a frame-up laid against her, passes the tests put in front of her and works her way through the Medical Association until she is the doctor everyone in Kingsport wants. The Fords learn later that the impostor they drove out is the daughter who went missing thirteen years earlier. Her brother kneels and asks her to come home, and she tells him that family love arriving this late is not something she needs.
