The Beast I Bought Broke the Rules

Dawn is sitting the Grand Exam with a spirit beast he bought on the black market. The beast is one the others look down on, but buying it set off a system of primordial reversion, which changed Dawn's genes and made him a Beast Tamer, and the beast itself has been evolving well past anything of its kind. He uses it to beat the heirs of the big families in the exam. Then a beast plague hits Riverport and the contestants have to fight to stay alive. Dawn joins Sunny and his team, and they work through rivals, fights inside the school, and a trade in potions, until the only way to save the city is to bring down the Dryad. On the way he runs up against the Primordial Beast Cult and begins to learn where he came from. After the Dryad the city gives him its honors, and he sets his sights on the Dragonfire Taskforce.
