Redemption in This Life

She keeps two things to herself: that she has lived this life once already, and what she means to do about it. Her husband, his parents, and the prefect's daughter go on dealing with her as the woman she was the first time. In that life her blood turned into gold. The family spent what came of it on a standing they had done nothing to earn, and then they turned on her, and she died on her wedding night. She has come back holding the knife that draws the wealth out. She uses it slowly, letting each of them reach further than they did before. Her husband chases the money until it takes his mind. His parents are caught up in their own scheming, and the prefect's daughter, who looks down on her, is drawn into the same game.
