Love Wasn't the Plan

Xia Yan and Fang Yun are best friends who end up inside a novel. Xia Yan lands as the devoted wife of Gu Bochuan, the scheming second male lead, and Fang Yun as the replacement lover of Gu Wang, the antagonist. To everyone around them the two look like women wasting themselves on men who will not have them, while in fact they are working through the family money as fast as they can spend it. Three years in, the novel's heroine Shen Mianmian comes back and the arrangement stops holding. The original plot ends badly for the characters they have been given, so the two of them fake their deaths and get out of Jiangcheng. Gu Bochuan and Gu Wang both take it hard, one going into remorse and something like madness, the other close to collapse. Xia Yan and Fang Yun settle in Jincheng and live off the money there. Three years after that a chance meeting in a nightclub puts them back in the middle of it.
