For My Son: The Final Break

York Zane's son owes money on bets he cannot cover, and the people holding the debt have beaten him badly enough to leave him maimed. He had been trying to raise money for his father's treatment, and the bets were set up to trap him. York has been told that his illness is terminal. Years earlier he was the player people called the Billiard God, and he has not touched the game since. He goes back to the billiard hall to get his son out and to make him see sense. There he unmasks the man who has been running the debts from behind the scenes. He is made to enter the Billiard God Championship, with a threat on his life if he refuses. The matches have been fixed in advance, and the reigning champion is a fake. York picks up a cue again under those conditions.
